Volunteer Spotlight - Kelly Harvell
Kelly Harvell has been a Band Together volunteer for four years. She attributes friends with inviting her to a VIP meeting for the Third Eye Blind concert in 2011 as the reason she became involved. “After that meeting I was hooked”, Kelly says of her initial introduction. For the past three years, she has worked on the VIP committee and organized the very successful Artist’s Village last year.As an elementary teacher in Wake County, Kelly was thrilled to find that our partners this year would be Communities In Schools of Durham and Communities In Schools of Wake County. She started working for CIS Wake’s SMART academy as a lead teacher last year, and says, “...once I heard we were working with CIS, I knew I had to jump right in!” This year, she will work with Band Together as one of the Lead Volunteers for the Backyard Cahoot, and as a member of the VIP/Logistics committee.Kelly’s favorite part of working with BT is helping non-profit organizations raise money for so many good causes. “I know when I am volunteering with BT, that I am really making a huge impact on my hometown!” And the amazing people she works with keep her coming back to volunteer year after year. “BT has provided me with a handful of stellar role models and friends.”Kelly says she became a teacher because it gives her a chance to “love my city,” and volunteering with Band Together is simply another, even greater opportunity to do the same. “If we want to see positive changes being made in our city we have to make them happen and I truly believe that BT is really making it happen.”
