Get Outside - and Listen to Some (free) Music!
Well, it’s official - Summer is here! (Technically we still have a few more days until June 21st, but for the purposes of all the fun stuff, summer is here.) It’s time for cookouts, steaks and burgers on the grill, and weekends at the pool or the beach. For local music lovers, this means the outdoor venues are up and running, and some great bands can be heard all over the Triangle playing under the stars. Here are a few of the great outdoor live concert venues this summer where you can sip your beer and enjoy some great music in the sweet night air for FREE!!
Wednesdays
- Music in the Valley Series: At Crabtree Valley Mall, outside McCormick & Schmick’s from 6:00 - 9:00. Upcoming artists include Suicide Blonde and Soul Kitchen
- Wind Down Wednesday: At Waverly Place in Cary, on the Promenade from 6:00 - 9:00 through August 21. Artists will include Craig Woolard Band, the Party Nuts and Liquid Pleasure.
Thursdays
- MidTown Beach Series: At North Hills in Raleigh, in the Commons from 6:00 - 9:00 through August 15. Bands this summer will include Band of Oz and the Embers.
- Find Your Cool Series: At CCB Plaza in Durham, from 7 - 8:30 through August 8. Upcoming bands will include Virgins Family Band and The Pinkerton Raid.
- Oak City 7: At City Plaza in Raleigh, from 5:30 - 9:30 through August 22. Acts this summer will include Cracker, Southern Culture on the Skids and our friends (2012 Last Band Standing winners) Big Something.
- Fearrington Village Outdoor Series: (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) At the Roost in Fearrington Village Center, from 5:00 - 8:00 through October 12. Artists will include Guilty Pleasures, Tommy Edwards, Greg Hawks and Mark Holland.
- Art of Cool Jazz Series: At the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, from 5:00 - 7:00. May 30 Rasta Root and June 6, Al Stong.
Fridays
- Fridays on the Front Porch: At the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, on the front lawn from 5:00 - 8:00 through October 4. Upcoming acts include Hank Morning After, the Gravy Boys, and our friends Big Fat Gap.
- Center Stage at American Tobacco Campus in Durham. 3-hour free music festival, one Friday each month through October. Acts include Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and IIIrd Tyme Out with Mipso.
- Brightleaf Square Concert Series: At the Brightleaf Square Courtyard in Durham, from 7:00 - 9:00 through September 13. Acts include Plan B, Will McBride Group and Crush.
Saturdays
- Music on Main Series: At Southpoint Mall in Durham, from 6:00 - 8:45 through October. Upcoming bands include Legacy, Mint Julep Jazz Band and Ty Brown.
Sundays
- Sundays @ Six Series: At Village Green in Southern Village in Chapel Hill, from 6:00 - 9:00 through October 13. Artists will include Mudbone Blues Review, Angie and the Cool and Southern Routes.
