Band Together Volunteers Honored for National Volunteer Appreciation Week
Local Publication Recognizes Kavita Hall, Charles Hodges for Selfless Commitment to Improving Community
Raleigh, N.C., April 17, 2013 — Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, is pleased to announced that two of its exceptional volunteers, Kavita Hall and Charles Hodges, have been recognized by the local nonprofit publication Philanthropy Journal for their outstanding work and dedication to community service in honor of National Volunteer Week, April 21-27.Kavita Hall, the assistant director for corporate and foundation relations at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was named Philanthropy Journal’s “Volunteer Services Coordinator of the Year” for her role as leader over Band Together’s team of more than 500 active volunteers. Since taking on the role of volunteer coordinator in 2011, Hall has helped grow Band Together’s volunteer base by hundreds, largely due to her round-the-clock championing of the Band Together cause. Hall is also credited with establishing the BT Roadies in 2011, a traveling group of volunteers that coordinates and participates in monthly “day of service” activities at various nonprofits around the Triangle.Charles Hodges, founder and principal of local public affairs and communications firm Insight Advocacy and Communications, received an honorable mention as “Exceptional Volunteer” from Philanthropy Journal for his leadership over Band Together’s communications committee. As communications chair, Hodges is tasked with the daunting goal of helping Band Together spread its message to millions of Triangle residents in an effort to raise awareness and secure fundraising for the annual charity concert event. Since taking on this leadership role in 2012, Charles’ communication efforts have helped Band Together more than double its social media following, increase media coverage more than threefold and raise more than $1.5 million for local nonprofits,.“While Kavita and Charles have been instrumental in helping Band Together accomplish significant measurable objectives during their time with us, it’s really their immeasurable effort and enthusiasm that have really made the difference,” said Matt Strickland, executive director of Band Together. “I cannot think of two more deserving individuals in the Band Together family that should be recognized for their unyielding, inspiring and creative contributions to our organization.”Both Hall and Hodges have been helping Band Together prepare for their annual main event, taking place Saturday, May 4 at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre featuring headlining act Lyle Lovett.
