KHRUANGBIN
Khruangbin’s music is multilingual, weaving far-flung musical languages like East Asian surf-rock, Persian funk, and Jamaican dub into mellifluous harmony. The Houston, TX group—bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer, drummer DJ Johnson—pulls inspiration from all over the globe. Their most recent album, Mordechai, pulled reference points from Pakistan, Korea, and West Africa, and incorporated strains of Indian chanting boxes and Congolese syncopated guitar. Khruangbin is undoubtedly enchanting and dynamic, with a sound that emulates “the world, rather than any one particular part of the world,” says the bassist Laura Lee.
