Michael Franti - All About Love

Franti 3Michael Franti is more than a really talented musician an entertainer. He’s also an acute observer of humanity, a global being and a guy that believes deeply in showing BIG love for his fellow humans. He’s weighed in a lot recently on the unrest between police officers and African-Americans, and his thoughts are playing out on the stage and in the recording studio. And, it turns out his reason for going shoeless is less about comfort and more about acknowledging the people he’s met around the world who cannot afford shoes – and his efforts to send shoes to 50 countries. But rather than hijack content from other great sources, we’ll point you to three really good interviews with him  (below). Learn more about the man, his music and his causes – and you’ll understand why we’re so happy to have him headlining our show.

A BIG Show

Did we mention HOURS of music at Red Hat? Not only do we have Michael Franti and show openers Fat Cheek Kat, but there’s great music in between.BigSamFunkyNation_2014Big Sam’s Funky Nation (BSFN) is led by trombone powerhouse, Big Sam Williams, who the San Francisco Chronicle calls “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz.” The band’s signature sound combines rock sensibility with improv-style jazz and a horn-heavy front section that’s the hallmark of big band funk. Big Sam has played with Dave Matthews and Widespread Panic and shared the stage with U2 and Green. They are going to give a performance that will blow your mind – and you can preview what you’ll see here.Elliot RootElliot Root is an American alternative music group based in the heart of Music City Nashville. They’ve got two EP releases and a full album out this year, and they have spent the better part of a few years building a buzz around music that is hard to put in a box.Challenged by the surrounding Nashville music scene, Elliot Root has received attention for their eclectic mix-up of impactful melodies and an ever-changing variety of soundscapes – all influenced by the bands’ many musical heroes across genres. Visit their site and give them a listen.back to top
