In Memory of Mike Shook
On April 17, 2015, a great man and one of Band Together's earliest supporters – Mike Shook – passed away. This weekend I was able to attend the moving and celebratory funeral services for him and show our support and appreciation.
Mike Shook was the CEO of Strategic Technologies when the events of Sept 11, 2001 occurred. We were planning our first event, Band Together for our Heroes, and I remember walking into his office and giving him the story of our causes and asking him if he would consider contributing. As we discussed the options, he immediately agreed to be the Gold Sponsor for the event – and had the company write a check for $5,000. This was our first big sponsor for the event and his generosity helped bring momentum and energy to the fundraising efforts that ended in a very successful first Band Together event.The services were full of moving tributes and it was evident that Mike's love for others and his heart for giving back extended far and wide, from his church to our community. I am glad that Phil Gruber got a chance recently to thank him personally for that early Band Together support that made such a big difference.
