Our Last Two Bands for LBS
Describing their style as “rocky soul,” the Dark Water Rising band members credit their formation to their own Native American communities. Their playing style blends a combination of influences, ranging from Sunday morning worship services to the diverse styles of artists like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the BeeGees and Lynrd Skynard. Through their music they evoke sincere emotion on issues affecting contemporary Native American communities.Dark Water Rising has two albums under their belt to date: self-titled release “Dark Water Rising” (2010) and “Grace & Grit: Chapter 1” (2012). The band has performed throughout the East Coast, appeared on NPR's "The Story with Dick Gordon" and "The State of Things,” and earned a Native American Music Award for "Debut Duo or Group of the Year" (2010).

Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba is a unique synthesis of ancient and modern. Their irresistible dance grooves, captivating performances, fiery percussion, and super-tight arrangements communicate unforgettable joy and passion, all centered around the Kora - the 22-string bridge-harp from West Africa. The band features Senegalese griot Kora player, Diali Cissokho, who has been garnering comparisons to the likes of Youssou N'Dour and Baaba Maal as well as James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. They have shared the stage with Michael Franti and Spearhead, Vieux Farka Toure and Donna The Buffalo.

We're Hiring: Seeking Program Manager

Volunteer Profile - Lizzie Lauffer
Band Together would be nothing without our hard-working, dedicated volunteers...like Lizzie Lauffer, the victim of this month's volunteer spotlight. For more than three years she’s been helping out, taking on more responsibility, and now helping to guide the Silent Auction as a co-chair. Find out more about Lizzie and her volunteer experience in our recent blog post.back to top
Where are they Now...Jack the Radio - Part II
We really like the guys at Jack the Radio - not just because they are nice and make good music, but they've got interesting stories to tell. In our second edition of Catching up with Jack the Radio, we asked them about the music that has influenced them and we've got Part Deux, here.back to top
Thanks, Last Band Standing Sponsors!
We are fortunate to have amazing, generous sponsors support our activities throughout the year. While most of our sponsor support is directed at the Main Event, Last Band Standing wouldn’t be possible without the following corporate partners:
