Band Together NC Announces StepUp Ministry as 2015 Nonprofit Partner
Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 31, 2013) – Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced StepUp Ministry as its 2015 nonprofit partner. StepUp Ministry is an interfaith nonprofit organization that teaches low-income and homeless people to become self-sufficient. StepUp will jointly partner with Band Together on its annual event that has produced as much as $862,000 in net proceeds for the community.
“The selection process was not easy this year, since we had many outstanding and worthy nonprofits apply for the 2015 partnership,” said Matthew Strickland, executive director of Band Together. “StepUp Ministry appealed to our Board because many families are experiencing unemployment in the Triangle. StepUp is taking the initiative to not only help, but train our citizens in need. Our partnership will have an extremely meaningful impact in our community.”In 2015, Band Together and StepUp intend to surpass the current 2014 goal of raising more than $1 million for Communities In Schools of Wake County and Communities In Schools of Durham. Proceeds raised during the 2015 partnership year will be used to: maintain StepUp Raleigh; open a parent organization, StepUp North Carolina; and, open a seed organization, StepUp Durham.StepUp Durham will be in operation by June 2015, with a goal of placing 200 people in jobs during the first year. The overall partnership, including StepUp Durham, StepUp Raleigh and StepUp North Carolina – will have a broad impact on individuals, numerous communities, businesses and the state. StepUp North Carolina will be operational by January 2015, overseeing all intellectual property and providing administrative to all StepUp organizations.“This partnership will allow additional low-income and unemployed adults and families to build stabile lives through jobs and life skills training. Through this partnership with Band Together, we now have the opportunity to offer our programs throughout the Triangle community,” said Steve Swayne, CEO at StepUp. “We are pleased to be partnered with Band Together and look forward to seeing the impact we have on the community in 2015.”With the success of its 2013 concert, Band Together has donated almost $3 million to local nonprofits since its inception in 2001. The 2013 Band Together event helped raise $862,000 for Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities.
