Last Band Standing 2015!
We’ve got all four bands! That’s right – the 2015 Last Band Standing lineup is set with The Nomadic, Fat Cheek Kat, Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba and Dark Water Rising. Our most dynamic and diverse lineup to date, all to benefit our 2015 partnership with StepUp Ministry.
Don’t miss your chance to support Band Together’s work while you are at one of the best parties of the year – and find out which band will win the coveted opening slot at our spring Main Event.
Our Last Two Bands for LBS
Describing their style as “rocky soul,” the Dark Water Rising band members credit their formation to their own Native American communities. Their playing style blends a combination of influences, ranging from Sunday morning worship services to the diverse styles of artists like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the BeeGees and Lynrd Skynard. Through their music they evoke sincere emotion on issues affecting contemporary Native American communities.
Dark Water Rising has two albums under their belt to date: self-titled release “Dark Water Rising” (2010) and “Grace & Grit: Chapter 1” (2012). The band has performed throughout the East Coast, appeared on NPR’s “The Story with Dick Gordon” and “The State of Things,” and earned a Native American Music Award for “Debut Duo or Group of the Year” (2010).

Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba is a unique synthesis of ancient and modern. Their irresistible dance grooves, captivating performances, fiery percussion, and super-tight arrangements communicate unforgettable joy and passion, all centered around the Kora – the 22-string bridge-harp from West Africa.
The band features Senegalese griot Kora player, Diali Cissokho, who has been garnering comparisons to the likes of Youssou N’Dour and Baaba Maal as well as James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. They have shared the stage with Michael Franti and Spearhead, Vieux Farka Toure and Donna The Buffalo.

We’re Hiring: Seeking Program Manager
Just a few years ago, Band Together made a transformative decision to hire our first staff member. Since Matt Strickland’s arrival (i.e. the addition of someone dedicated solely to Band Together’s growth), we have raised over $2 million, and we’re on track to raise another $2 million in 2015 alone. Compare that to our previous 10 years and $1.5 million. We’ve also greatly strengthened our leadership pipeline and significantly increased our volunteer involvement and volunteer hours delivered to our community each year.
Now it’s time for phase two: we’re looking for a dynamic, passionate person with a commitment to improving our community to serve as Program Manager and assist with the overall growth and community impact of Band Together.
The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing volunteer engagement, administration and event management of the organization. Other key duties include stewardship management, marketing and community outreach. For full information on the position and applying, view the full description HERE.

Volunteer Profile – Lizzie Lauffer
Band Together would be nothing without our hard-working, dedicated volunteers…like Lizzie Lauffer, the victim of this month’s volunteer spotlight. For more than three years she’s been helping out, taking on more responsibility, and now helping to guide the Silent Auction as a co-chair. Find out more about Lizzie and her volunteer experience in our recent blog post.
Where are they Now…Jack the Radio – Part II
We really like the guys at Jack the Radio – not just because they are nice and make good music, but they’ve got interesting stories to tell. In our second edition of Catching up with Jack the Radio, we asked them about the music that has influenced them and we’ve got Part Deux, here.
Thanks, Last Band Standing Sponsors!
