Band Together donates $11,702 and packs over 10,000 meals for Haitian Relief Efforts

We are fortunate enough, with your pledges, to be able to donate $11,702 to Stop Hunger Now who has shipped more than 250,000 meals, bottled water and medical supplies to Haiti. We also worked with several area businesses to help package over 10,000 of those meals. Thank you again for helping us respond to this disaster as well as stay close to our heritage of being born a call-to-action group.

Event Testimonial

"The dedicated team of volunteers that comprise Band Together is exceptional in every way. They devoted themselves to understanding the mission of the Lucy Daniels Center and making it their own as they shared our story and sought support from the community. BT is a testament to the power a group of volunteers can have to inspire others to give and get involved, even during difficult economic times. In addition to presenting incredible concerts, BT builds community between sponsors, volunteers, and music lovers. They inspired our board, advisory board, staff, and parents to rally together around a common goal. The funds, community awareness for children’s mental health, and positive energy generated from this event have given the Center a new base of support that we can build on for years to come! We thank everyone involved with Band Together and look forward to paying it forward by volunteering in future years."

It is easy to forget how imposing, powerful and amazing a train can be; it would be downright foolish to get in a trains way. Saturday night, Band Together NC hosted its 7th event right under the tracks. The event drew a record crowd of 1312 at the intersection of Glenwood and North Streets in downtown Raleigh. It was the synthesis of generous sponsors, amazing volunteers, and a music-inspired and charitable crowd that helped Band Together raise nearly $40,000.00 for the Boys and Girls Club of Wake County.

As the sun faded and the crowd got closer with critical mass listening to Indecision, the first band, a full moon rose for the headliner, Donna the Buffalo. The music was separated by the poignant stories that DJ and Ralph shared about how this event would help provide a safe place for disadvantaged youth in order for them to learn and grow in our community.

As the event tipped the 11:00PM noise ordinance scale, Donna The Buffalo brought the crowd to a roar as a massive freight train passed overtop the stage. In their encore was a magical moment. With perfect timing and divine rhythm, the massive train took center stage and became much more than a metaphorical musician. To the crowds delight, the band lowered its volume and let the unaccompanied sounds of the train reign in the final bridge of their closing song. It was an incredible ending to an event supported by wonderful weather, a community of caring people who also love music, and all for a cause...Band Together NC and The Boys and Girls Clubs.

The Boys & Girls Clubs have full-time, trained youth development professionals, providing role models and mentors. Part-time staff and volunteers provide key supplementary support. Boys & Girls Clubs are available and affordable to all youth, including those who may lack access to other community programs. Membership fees are low, only $7.50 per year to join. The Boys & Girls Clubs is currently experiencing enrollment growth similar to that of the Wake County School system. The number of children served in the Triangle has increased by more than 40% since 2000 with numbers steadily increasing.
